The common cold, of viral origin, can occur at any age. In the vast majority of cases, the common cold involves the nose and throat, (sometimes the sinuses with inflammation), causing a watery or thick discharge of mucus from the nasal passages, often with blockage of one or other nostril. The nasal discharge may be yellow or green, the skin around the nose and lips raw and sore. A dry cough is also common and often a headache, with aching pains throughout the body. Young children may have four to six colds a year until their immune systembuilds up strength and resistance.

Shivering and pains in the throat and limbs
Anxiety and restlessness
Much sneezing, throbbing in the nostrils

Nasal catarrh which is burning, one sided, profuse and watery
May have headache, sneezing and sore throat
Worse in a stuffy room, better in open air

Acute chesty cold with exhaustion
May have a high temperature
Thin, watery, excoriating discharge
Sneezing without relief
Great restlessness

Very thirsty for big drinks
Wants to be left alone and must be still
Dry lips, often with sneezing, runny nose and sore eyes and headache on first day then goes to throat and chest, with hoarseness and bronchitis
Worse for cold dry weather.
